NIGERIA INDEPENDENCE DAY AT 65: A lesson of Growth, Lessons and Resilience

Sometimes, as individuals, we think we are okay… that we’ve conquered everything there is to conquer. But then, something happens, and we realize we are not there yet.

In many ways, Nigeria’s story at 65 mirrors this truth.

Since gaining independence, we’ve celebrated victories, overcome battles and achieved progress that once felt impossible.

Yet, every now and then, we are reminded that the journey is not complete. Challenges arise — economic struggles, leadership gaps, insecurity and societal divisions — reminding us that there is still work to be done.

And that’s okay.

Because each obstacle highlights where our focus must be. Each setback reveals opportunities for redirection and renewal. Like every human being who sometimes breaks down, vents or rants, a nation too can stumble. Just as individuals must not remain stuck, neither must Nigeria. We must learn, grow and move forward.

This is the essence of stress mastery; not avoiding stress entirely, but learning how to channel it, rise above it, and transform it into fuel for resilience and progress. At The Wellness Boss Company Limited, this is the heart of what we teach; that empowerment comes from reframing struggles as stepping stones, both for individuals and organizations. And when we look closely, that is also what Nigeria has been doing for the last 65 years.

Some people stay longer in certain classrooms than others, and the same is true for nations. Our classroom of democracy, unity and prosperity may be taking longer than expected; but graduation is still possible.

The beauty of Nigeria lies in our flawed humanity as a people and our collective awareness that growth is possible.

Not in one day, not in one anniversary, but in deliberate and intentional efforts.

And yes, those efforts may require us to fall, to rise and to fall again. But each time we rise, we rise stronger.

In many ways, it feels like living through what I once described in my book as “Rhythms of Resilience” — learning to conquer forgetfulness of who we are, embracing the chaos of uncertainty and mastering the stress that comes with the journey.

Nigeria’s 65 years remind us that resilience is not a destination but a rhythm, and one worth dancing to, even with all its missteps.

As Nigeria turns 65, let us remember: Independence was never meant to be the end of the story; it was the beginning.

The real victory lies in our ability to acknowledge where we are, to embrace the lessons of our journey, and to commit to building the nation we desire … one step, one effort and one day at a time.

Happy Independence Day, Nigeria. Here’s to growth, resilience, stress mastery and a future we can all be proud of.
